Amazing climate of wooden house PDF Print E-mail

Rozalin. A small village in the district of Tarnobrzeg. Just here Mr. Maciej has decided to realize his dreams of log house. A beautiful landscape, with a large forest complex has become the ideal place to start building the house which was to be close to the tradition and make warm, family atmosphere.

Mr. Maciej - a soldier by profession,  eternal wanderer with passion because he loves travelling. He usually travels with his wife, Agnes - Dr psychology, sons: Paul and Martin and one year old daughter Veronica. Most of his dreams, as Siberia tour or swimming in Lake Baikal, he has already completed.

He with his 7-year old son climbed Mount Etna in Sicily and drove much of Europe. He is also undoubted in love with Polish mountains, hills and hillocks.

He also decided to realize his biggest dream and create own place on the earth. Mr. Maciej and his wife knew that they would feel better nowhere but wooden house. We asked Mr. Maciej how the process of constructing this kind of house looked like.

Dorota Prokopiak: What should be pay attention to when choosing design of wooden house?

Maciej Staszczak: Simple questions are sometimes the most difficult. Surely one must like it as a whole and in details. And besides it has to be practical, and meet individual expectations for the
relative position of each wall and the practical interior deployment. Often this which looks  interesting on the picture may in fact be impossible for the investor. For example too complicated, roof construction, which price will be 1 / 3 of the overall price, interesting-looking foundation
with impressive terraces may appear to be a kind of a brick house. Costs can then reach the horrible sum. First of all, you must  confront external dimension of the house with dimensions plot.

DP: How do I find a good building company?
MS: If you have already decided on a particular company it’s good to see its constructions, these which stand for years and those in progress and also talk with people who live there. Important are also details, how long the company is  on the market  or where the wood comes from, what about guarantee,  what technology will be used and what kind of experience and recommendations it has. You shouldn’t choose the company only looking in some catalogue published in the press or phone call. The company "Owl" which  realized our investment was a very good choice. It’s employees have
very kind attitude to their customers and are really involved in their work. You see that it makes them pleasure.

DP: What kind of wood is best to make a house? Where and how to buy cheap and good wood?

MS: My house is made of fir logs from Bieszczady. In general, a company has its suppliers, but should also allow the situations that a client can find the better access to the raw material. How to buy cheap wood? You simply need to look for and compare prices.

DP: How do you know so much about wooden constructions?

MS: Every available literature and conversations with people are valuable source of knowledge. Sometimes it seems to me that due to the information gathered  through the years from my uncle carpenter, heard somewhere, read or seen  I have created a base of knowledge on this topic.

DP: When the investment was started and how long does it take?

MS: The brick part,  cellars and lower terraces were built in 2007, the wooden part was made and placed between mid-2008 to March 2009. Since December 2010, we have lived in the house.

DP: What moments  during construction process are the most important?

MS: Every step is very important, starting with choice of design up to the selection of curtain rods and curtains. We must always remember about the final result and at no time try to go "shortcuts". I do not think it is important that someone likes the style "modern" or "Victorian era". Everything has to interact with each other and create a unified whole. You have to keep once adopted style.

DP: What kind of heating do you use?

MS: Stove for solid fuel, eg. coal, wood, briquette. Alternatively, gas furnace condensing "Junkers" and in addition to fireplace, which has channels of distributing gravity warm air into two bedrooms located in the attic. Tray of  300 liters of water heated is therefore either by a furnace or other and in addition has an input for electrical heating and in future for solar heating.

DP: Are you able to roughly estimate the cost of such investments?

MS: It depends on the individual capabilities, the type of loan or possessed cash.  I will simply say that the cost of putting our house exceeded twice the cost of traditional one.

DP: What would you tell to people who hesitate over the implementation of this technology for their homes?

MS: If someone has always dreamed about living in a friendly, wooden scenery, sheltered from cold, wind or rain with natural texture of old but still fragrant tree, this let him not give up this dream. Climate, on which consists: constant humidity, smell, appearance in the daylight  and the light burning of the fireplace is in my opinion unique. And this technology (known more widely in the south-eastern  Germany), is the perfect combination of tradition and modernity.

DP: Thank you very much for the interview. I wish you that this magical atmosphere which you have created in the house would never pass.
